Tech Corner

Welcome to Tech Corner — where mountain biking meets mechanics.

If you’ve ever wondered why one bike feels stable at speed while another feels playful and agile…
Why wheel size changes the character of a ride…
Or what terms like split pivot, fork offset, and trail actually mean — you’re in the right place.

We know Its not all about sustainability, we've talked and talked about being green and want to try and help so we hope this is going help some people.

There a lot of jargon out there and were picking some of the subjects we think will have the most benefit if you can understand them just a little.

Tech Corner is dedicated to exploring the tech side mountain biking in a way that’s clear, practical, and easy to understand. Mountain bikes are carefully engineered machines, and small design choices can have a big impact on how they ride. Yet much of the information out there is either overly complicated or filled with stuff that people might not understand.

This page aims to bridge that gap.

Each post will focus on a specific subject, including:

  • Frame geometry – how angles and lengths shape handling and stability

  • Tyre choice – tread patterns, compounds, widths, and how they affect grip and speed

  • Wheel size – the real-world differences between 27.5", 29", and mixed setups

  • Suspension Types – how suspension design influences feel and performance

  • Fork offset and trail – what they mean and why they matter on the trail

  • And many more technical topics that influence how a bike behaves

The goal isn’t to overwhelm you with equations or engineering theory. Instead, each article will break down complex ideas into simple explanations, helping riders especially those new to mountain biking understand why bikes feel the way they do.

Whether you’re choosing your first mountain bike, upgrading components, or just curious about the mechanics behind the ride, Nerds Corner is here to help you build confidence through knowledge.

Because the more you understand your bike, the better you can ride it.
